A location scout for Universal Pictures, Justin Besemer, has been roaming La Paz County and the California area for three weeks trying to find the right scenery for "Fast and Furious 5."

The Parker Area Chamber of Commerce was contacted by a studio representative April 7, who said a film crew would be in the area approximately May 24 to July 8.

Besemer met with the La Paz County Board of Superiors May 3 in a special meeting.

County Community Resource Director Dan Barbara has been showing Besemer potential locations.

Besemer said the locations would be for the Second Unit Production of the film. He noted action shots would be filmed. The film has other locations in Georgia and Puerto Rico.

A location scout's job is to find property, take photos and send them back to the studio.

"We are looking at railroad land, and rail cars are being brought in from around the nation. There will be filming near the California towns of Rice, Vidal Junction and Vidal," Besemer said.

Filming on relatively untouched land is a goal.

"I've been in contact with your county assessor (George Nault) and he's great," Besemer stated.

Besemer has looked at county land upriver, at Parker South, Hope, the county fairgrounds and plans to look at the county landfill area.

On the railroad land, there will be stunt work and some explosions.

Besemer stated he wants people to know what is going and on, so there will be no surprises. He noted he would be talking to the Colorado River Indian Tribes also.

The Board authorized County Administrator Dan Field to negotiate a contract with Universal Studios relating to the use of county property for filming purposes.

Besemer told the supervisors a crew of 200 would be based in Parker and they would use local vendors for supplies.

The "Fast and Furious" franchise has fast cars, trucks, martial arts, guns and explosions. Principal actors reprising their roles will be Vin Diesel and Paul Walker in the fifth installment.

wow Fast and Furious 5????? Vin Diesel and Paul Walker must be broke hahaha. Its cool there filming out there though.
