I went to lake havasu for memorial day weekend, I do annually, and the sandbar was closed. I overheard that its now closed for most of the major holiday weekends. My question is why? I went there in 2007 and had loads of fun.

People get too drunk and end up drowning would be my guess why they close it

I think they started closing it about 2000 to much $hit was going, drunks, fights, complete nudity
(cant complane about that) to much kaos, then they had a big brawl the broke out in 2000 i think, some dude got shanked & died ever since then they started closing it on Memorial, 4th of July & Laborday. all other weekend its open. Just to many idiots that come on Holiday weekends and ruin it for the rest of us.

I was disappointed this year... Was planning spending one of the days there, but found out it was closed once we arrived. I've only been on holiday weekends and yet to experience the sandbar. Not even sure where it is actually??? And what is this mini-snadbar you speak of?

I see. Some people just ruin it for everyone. I guess I might have partied it up on mini sandbar in 07 then. I thought it was the big sandbar. I would have liked seeing the complete nudity haha.

The sandbar was so much better 8-10 years ago when there were no reeds and it was definitely more exposed. I think the girls-gone-wild videos had something to do with it too. Back then it was families setup for the day. It's still a cool place to hang out on non-holidays.
BTW: it's a 8 miles up from the shallows on the right hand side. Google Devil's Elbow.

I learned alot a womens anatomy at the sandbar. It was way better back when there were no reeds on it, and there used to be no exposed sand at all when my family first started going.

Yeah those were the good old dayz
This is a video i produced it's about 85% video footage that was shot at the Old sandbar, between 1997 & 2000 berore the high reefs & when the girls were getting wild without getting busted. I started it for fun then it became a major production i even got a distributer and sold over 20,000 copies world wide. It was fun but made no money.
Like i said the gold old dayz.

The Mini-sandbar or California sandbar I have marked in the GPS as N34 33.419, W114 24.028. It's on the CA side, about 2 miles before Blankenship Bend, where the main sandbar is. On a holiday weekend, you can't miss it...lots of people out there.
Here was my tie-up crew on Saturday there from Memorial weekend...

I drove by the "California Sandbar" last Memorial day and it was pretty hectic just trying to get by it. Everybody wants to cross from clear across the other side of the river at 15mph creating the biggest waves possible. Got pretty gnarly, I wouldnt be surprised to see a big LEO presense there in the near future.
