The search is on for a boat involved in a hit-and-run accident that took the life of a 30-year-old man Saturday.

“We’re looking for a boat that is approximately 25-feet in length, predominantly red with a white stripe. It has a V-hull and an enclosed bow,” said San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Smith.

Smith said the boat, which also had a Bimini top, was last seen leaving the scene of the accident in the direction of Chalk Cliffs. A man described as a white, heavy-set male with a moustache, wearing a hat, was driving the boat. Also in the boat was a white female with blonde hair.

Anyone with information about the boat or its operator’s whereabouts is asked to call San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Det. Trahin or Sgt. Smith at (760) 326-9200, or any local law enforcement agency.

The accident occurred at 5:30 p.m. at Havasu Lake, Calif. near Havasu Landing Casino, when the victim was one of two people riding inflatable chairs being towed behind a boat. The victim fell off his inner tube and as his towboat was turning to retrieve him, the suspect boat struck him.

The suspect boat slowed after being hailed by the victim’s boat, then fled the scene of the accident.

Medical personnel passengers in the towing boat helped retrieve the victim and immediately began CPR. They brought him to Havasu Landing where they performed CPR until San Bernardino County Fire Department arrived. SBCFD continued CPR until the Lake Havasu City Fire Department boat arrived to transport the victim to the Windsor Launch Ramps at Lake Havasu State Park for transport to Havasu Regional Medical Center.

The victim is reported to have suffered multiple and serious lacerations from the propeller and was unable to be revived.

SBCSD responded with four watercraft and a helicopter. Mohave County Sheriff’s Office and Lake Havasu City Police also assisted.

Investigation into the incident continues. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

It’s the only known fatality on the Lake during the July Fourth holiday weekend.

This is awful to hear. It's been 17 years this July 3 that my mom was run over and nearly lost her left leg and arm. This hits pretty close. I really hope they find the guy.

Man killed by boat named

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department identified the man who was killed during a hit-and-run boating incident Saturday on Lake Havasu as 30-year-old Eric Norris, of Huntington Beach, Calif. R.I.P.

We have received numerous tips from the public and we have checked three different boats but all were ruled out. We are grateful to the public for their input but we have unable to locate the suspect boat,” said SBCD Sgt. Tim Smith. The department is still actively seeking the vessel.

News of Norris' death hit hard at Anytime Fitness in Fountain Valley on Monday, where Norris was remembered as a popular trainer who always had time for anyone who needed help.
"I loved him dearly," said gym member Amy Yue. "He always had a smile on his face and was a very kind young man. I am devastated by his death."
Norris, an avid student of jiujitsu, went by the nickname "Octopus" because of the way he could wrap his arms and legs around an opponent, said a longtime friend, MMA fighter Clark "The Irish Bulldog" Bevans.
"Before you knew it he would have you tied up like an octopus would," Bevans said.
The seasoned blue belt helped Bevans train for several fights, and would even roll around on the mat with son Phoenix, teaching him the ropes.
Norris lived with his 88-year-old grandmother, acting as her sole caregiver and doing the laundry and other household chores, Bevans said. "He never complained about it once."
Friends have set up a memorial website at Eric 'Octopus' Norris - In Memory of a Loving Father, Great Friend and Wonderful Person with information about Norris and about donating money to help cover Norris' funeral costs. Memorial bracelets also are being sold for $10 to help raise money. The bracelets are blue, Phoenix's favorite color. Any additional money will be placed into a trust fund for Phoenix, Bevans said.

Letter: Please help me find justice

I live in Kingman. My nephew was killed by a boater on Lake Havasu July 3. The boater left the scene of the accident - a hit-and-run. I have two reasons for writing this letter:

1. The more publicity, perhaps the authorities will catch the coward who killed my nephew Eric Norris.

2. I have the highest regard for the first-responders immediately on the scene to aid my nephew. They did an outstanding job, and I cannot ever thank them enough for their care to my nephew. Deputy Mark Johnson is the kindest, caring, most human person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He watched over my nephew until he was transferred to us.

I am in California with my mother, whom my nephew was living with, simply watching over her. I will not return to Kingman until I have made all the necessary arrangements for my mother's care.

We want the person who killed my nephew caught. He is described as a heavy, white male with a moustache. He had a white female in the boat with him. The boat is a V-hual, red with a white stripe and a bimini top. Please, if anyone has any knowledge of the boater, please contact the authorities.

Eric left behind a 7-year-old boy. Eric loved his son more than I could have ever imagined. His baby boy told me he just wants to see his dad one more time. We all know that isn't possible because of a coward who walks amongst us.

Again, if anyone has any knowledge of this hit-and-run, please call any police department or sheriff's office and relay the information. I will be forever grateful. Thank you.

With all the publicity this is getting, there is a real good chance thsi guy will get caught. Especially if he is dumb enough to show up on any lake or river in the area with that boat.
