Hey gang, changing programs this weekend and going to AVI instead of Havasu Springs. Does anyone know the water temp for Laughlin and area?
We'll also launch at Katherines Landing on Mohave and I expect the water to be at least 82 degrees, sound about right?
Thanks!

Water in the river is pretty chilly at first but feels great in 100 plus temps.

We ran to the dam last summer from Cottonwood Cove on a three seater Seadoo 185 h.p. Had glass all the way but it was pushing 45 miles but they had gas at Black Canyon.
You have to go past the overhead cable by 100' if you want to see the full dam. There is a sign on the cable that says not to but we just had to after coming all that way. Once we were past Black Canyon there were Big Horn Sheep everywhere, We saw at least 20 of them. Incredible day, what a great area.

We did the run from Cathrines Landing to Hoover Dam last year I think it was about 20 boats It was one of the most awesome trips ever Great time, It was an all day event we met at 6:00 am at Wal Mart Havasu then carvaned to Laughlin, launced had breakfast, then left about 9:00AM & spent the whole day on the water, on the way back we pulled over at a cove bbq some carne asada & drinks, Had a great time.
The photos are posted on RF gallery under I think the (Hoover Dam Jam),
We should get a RF group to do it before summer ends.

Mileage wise, yes. We can do Springs to Pirate Cove round trip on a tank but not Cottonwood to the dam. 20 extra miles round trip at least.

The run from cottonwood to the dam is DEFINITELY longer than the springs to pirate cove. It takes like all day! Well, it goes a little quicker than that if you're closer to the dam and a storm starts chasing you down. I've done that run many times though.

I'm not sure how much gas it takes to do that run. I know we didn't have to fill up during the run but we would have both tanks topped off before we went. I'm not sure how much would be left when we got back but I know we weren't that close to using it all.
It did make it a little bit longer because when we were kids we would be getting pulled on the tubes behind the boat. We still went fast but it was nothing crazy. No whipping us around and no figure 8's to make so waves to jump. Just a straight shot. We would get a little bored when we were kids so my dad would throw us out there on the tubes. lol

Depending on the size tank your boat has & how much gas it sucks up, But my boat did it in one full tank from Cathrines Landing all the way up to the dam but i had to stop & fill up at one of the marinas on the way back, i would never have made it back on one tank. I have a 27' FT Advanyage with a 496 HO and an 80 gallon tank. It was well worth it, Awesome ride & remember it is an all day event so go early, youll need the whole day.

oh yeah! definitely the whole day. My boat that we've done that run in is a 26' SKV day cruiser with 2 tanks but I don't know how much gas they hold each. Keep in mind though that this SKV is a classic 1979 with a 454:cool:. Don't know how much more gas it takes than boats now a days. It doesn't have a whole lot of hours on it though it's older.

There is gas at Black Canyon as well as Cottonwood Cove for a top off or return gas.

man cottonwood was awesome. This was my first time there and it was a blast. The run to the dam was unbelievable. We kept asking our self why it took us so long to try it out.

Just got back last night.
Stayed 4 days at Avi Resort which is about 17 miles south of Laughlin. Cheap stay with our Toy Hauler at only $18 a night plus access to the beach and pool at the adjoined Casino. I highly reccomend Avi. Clean and secure.
Water temps were: Lake Mohave 82. Laughlin 67. Avi 69. Topock 71.
Had lunch at Pirate Cove and got gas at their dock. Topock was beautiful as usual, a lot of boats but not too crowded.
All in all a great trip. Towed the Toy Hauler to Havasu Landing for storage to use on our next trip, three weeks from now.
